Surgery may be necessary to aid in diagnosis,
correct structural abnormalities or to improve the effects of
conditions that impair fertility. Conceptions' physicians
specialize in advanced gynecologic surgery, of which
hysteroscopy and laparoscopy are two of the most common.
Hysteroscopy involves inserting a small, lighted instrument
through the cervix to examine the cervical canal, uterine cavity
and areas where the fallopian tubes open into the uterus. This
procedure allows any abnormalities to be precisely localized and
treated through the hysteroscope.
Typically, laparoscopy
is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed on an
outpatient basis. A small, lighted instrument is used to check
the reproductive organs for conditions such as endometriosis,
scar tissue or abnormal uterine shape. If any abnormalities are
found, they may be corrected at this time.
