"Being a donor was one of the most rewarding things I've done. I am so glad to know that I had a part in helping a couple have a child they longed for."
"Although the financial compensation is an awesome benefit of being an egg donor, it is definitely not the primary reason why I became one.
When the possibility of egg donation was first introduced to me, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I began thinking about young girls playing house with ideas of husbands, babies and happy families floating around in their minds. They would give their pretend children identities by not only choosing genders, but also giving names and dreaming up different types of personalities. These same girls would grow older and continue to dream of their future and wonder with bright-eyed enthusiasm what it will be like.
I then imagined a woman, who used to be that hopeful little girl, finding out that circumstances beyond her control have taken away the option of a natural-conception...This thought was heartbreaking. I knew in that instant that I wanted to help give these women and their partners a way to achieve their hopes of a happy and healthy family.
When I found out that my recipient couple had conceived, a warm feeling of excitement passed over me. In that moment I knew that any uncomfortable bloating or cramping that I had experienced and all the time I spent at appointments and check-ups would forever be worth the gift I had given. I also realized that even though I will never know that couple, we had been a team throughout the entire process and together created something beautiful. I am very grateful to have been chosen as the genetic link that helped to create their family and I wish them a lifetime of happiness. - Kara (2010)"
