Egg Freezing/Fertility Preservation

What is Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a method used to preserve a woman’s ability to get pregnant in the future. Eggs harvested from the ovaries are frozen unfertilized and stored for later use.

A frozen egg can be thawed, combined with sperm in a lab, and implanted back to the patient via IVF. Frozen egg transfers are preferable to fresh because they will be from a genetically younger woman.

Although the decline in reproductive potential that occurs with age cannot be reversed, freezing your eggs at a younger age may allow the eggs to be preserved until you are ready to conceive.

What is Fertility Preservation for Cancer Patients?

An unfortunate side affect of many types of cancer treatments is a complete loss or reduction in fertility. Conceptions Reproductive Associates of Colorado is here to support you through your challenging journey and to provide you with options for cancer fertility preservation. Please follow the steps below and contact us to assist in with your fertility preservation.

The Fertility Preservation Process for Cancer Patients

Step 1

Identify cancer type – Consult your oncologist about cancer type and treatment recommendations.

Step 2

Identify side effects – Consult with your oncologist about side effects of cancer treatments including medications, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Side effects are related to several things including age of the patient, type of cancer, type of chemotherapy or radiation, and treatment duration.

Step 3:

Consult a fertility specialist – At Conceptions Reproductive Associates, our team is ready to discuss fertility preservation options. This consultation must take place early – preferably before your treatment with chemotherapy or radiation if possible. Fertility preservation options depend on your individual circumstances and may include the following:

  1. IVF with egg freezing.
  2. Ovarian stimulation with egg freezing.
  3. Sperm cryopreservation.
  4. Surgery to place the ovaries outside of the pelvic radiation field.
  5. IVF with egg donation. This procedure is often used after cancer treatments have already occurred.

Step 4

Discuss financing options & discounts - As a proud participant in the Fertile Hope program, Conceptions has significantly discounted its treatment cycle packages. Patients approved through the Fertile Hope program will receive a medication grant and are eligible for the discounted package fees. Conceptions will honor that same discount for patients who do not quite meet Fertile Hope's criteria.
